DGC Projects :: Daphnia magna EST Sequencing

Project director: Hajime Watanabe

A preliminary D. magna cDNA library was constructed using animals from all life-history stages and cultured under standard laboratory conditions. From this library, more than 5,000 clones were one-pass sequenced and expressed sequence tag (EST) information was collected. Based on the success of this project, other cDNA libraries from chemically exposed D. magna are now under construction and more than 10,000 ESTs are currently analyzed and clustered. These sequences form the basis of (1) a comparative genomic survey between D. pulex and D. magna, (2) a gene discovery strategy for this species and (3) the development of ecotoxicological markers.

Sequence data from these projects are made available at wFleaBase. Additional contig information is available at our website.
