Perfect dinucleotide microsatellites have 5 or more uninterrupted repeat units while imperfect dinucleotides differ from perfect ones by the presence of no more than 3 arresting bases, leaving terminal ends at least 3 full repeats in length. Trinucleotide and tetranucleotide microsatellites have 4 or more uninterrupted repeats. Click on image for larger view.
