wFleaBase: The Daphnia Genomics Information Systems
wFleaBase is a database with the necessary infrastructure to curate,
archive and share genetic, molecular and functional genomics data and
protocols via the world-wide-web. It includes data from all species of
the genus Daphnia, yet the primary species are D. pulex
and D. magna. Although now in its adolescence, wFleaBase
currently contains search functions and information to extract
sequences from microsatellite DNA, cDNA and random genomic surveys. We
have deposited the first set of 538 characterized microsatellite primer
sequences and their optimal amplification conditions. More than 1500
such markers should be available at the close of the mapping
projects. This database will also serve as a repository of raw and
transformed microarray images, with sufficient experimental details
following Microarray Gene Expression Data (MGED) Society standards, as
these experiments produce a deluge of potentially valuable data beyond
the specific focus of individual studies. wFleaBase aims to provide
genomic information that can serve a large ecological and evolutionary
research community. Our challenge is to rapidly expand its content and
to ultimately integrate genetic and functional genomic information with
population-level responses to environmental challenges.
This website will look much better in a browser that supports
web standards, but it has been designed so
that it is still usable and accessible to any browser or web-enabled device.
